Known as a summer specialty dessert in Hokkaido, “Santa’s Beard(SANTA NO HIGE)” from “POPURA FARM”. This time, We enjoyed its flavor and sweetness at the Poplar Farm Nakafurano main store.
The Furano area in Hokkaido is famous for the lavender fields at Farm Tomita and, since approximately half of the year is covered in snow, it is also known for the Furano Ski Resort. Agricultural products, like the Furano melon that endures temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius, are richly concentrated in flavor due to the blessings of the harsh nature.
The said dessert is made in a very simple way. It is just a half-cut melon topped with a refreshing-flavored soft serve ice cream.
However, this is delicious. The Furano Basin’s extreme temperature differences produce red-fleshed melons with high sugar content and a satisfying bite. On top of this, a mountain of cold, sweet soft serve ice cream is generously placed. The hotter it is, the more deliciously one can taste the two cold sweets.”
The size of the half-cut melon is small (you can grasp the size before ordering as there are sample melons for reference in front of the register), making it easy to eat quickly. Even if one or two people are eating it, it will be finished before you know it.
In addition, they also sell “Santa’s Belly Button(SANTA NO HESO)” which is generously topped with Tokachi red beans, “Godzilla’s Beard(GODZILLA NO HIGE)” which is laden with plenty of chocolate sauce, as well as a drink menu.”
