Japan’s national convenience store chain FamilyMart will launch two limited-time items — the “GODIVA Double Chocolate Frappe” and the “GODIVA Strawberry Chocolate Frappe” — as part of its “FAMIMA CAFÉ” frappe series on April 29 at approximately 16,200 stores across Japan. Each item is priced at 498 yen (tax included). Prior to the release, a media presentation and tasting event were held in Tokyo.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the GODIVA-supervised frappes, which are now making their debut with the first-ever two-layer structure in the history of the FAMIMA CAFÉ frappe series. They are characterized by a smooth texture and a rich, deep flavor. The supervising chef is Yannick Chevolleau, Executive Chef Chocolatier at GODIVA.
The “GODIVA Double Chocolate Frappe” features a layer of chocolate sauce at the bottom, topped with chocolate ice cream mixed with chocolate chips. This marks the first time that chocolate sauce has been used in a frappe at FamilyMart. The chocolate ice cream contains roughly twice as many chocolate chips as last year’s version, creating a deeper and longer-lasting chocolate aftertaste.
By mixing the chocolate ice cream with the chocolate sauce, a bold and intense chocolate flavor hits the palate, making it feel almost as if you are eating pure chocolate itself. The chocolate chips are relatively soft, serving more as an accent to enhance the presence of the chocolate rather than to provide a crunchy texture.
Compared to the two new products released this time, this frappe offers a smoother texture in the ice cream. However, as a result, it can be more difficult to sip through a straw, so it is recommended to thoroughly knead and loosen the frappe before pouring in the milk.

The “GODIVA Strawberry Chocolate Frappe” features the largest amount of strawberry pulp sauce in the history of GODIVA frappes — about 1.4 times more than last year — layered with chocolate ice cream. A generous amount of vibrant strawberry pulp sauce is placed at the bottom, and by mixing the two layers together, the rich chocolate ice cream is complemented by a sweet and tangy freshness.
The crunchy texture of the chocolate chips and frappe ice, combined with the sweetness of the chocolate and the sweet-tart flavor of the strawberries, create a perfect match, allowing you to enjoy the drink without getting tired of it until the very last sip. The strawberry pulp is generously chunky, and you can clearly feel the texture of the seeds. With the addition of chocolate chips, the presence of chocolate is firmly emphasized as well. Right after being served, the heavy strawberry pulp sauce at the bottom makes it a bit difficult to mix and sip, so it’s recommended to let it melt slightly first to better enjoy the balance of all the elements.
Both frappes deliver a level of satisfaction that far exceeds their price, making them irresistible treats for chocolate lovers, with excellent cost performance. The rich chocolate and sweet-tart strawberries make them perfect for a well-deserved indulgent moment.
Please note that availability may vary, and some stores may not carry these products.
