Randy’s Donuts, the iconic donut shop from Los Angeles, is set to open its first store in Japan on May 15. Located inside the commercial complex LOG ROAD DAIKANYAMA in Daikanyama-cho, Shibuya, Tokyo, the new location will be named “Randy’s Donuts Shibuya Daikanyama.” Ahead of the official opening, the store and a variety of its donuts were unveiled to the press on May 12.

Randy’s Donuts is a popular donut shop that was founded in Los Angeles in 1952. The giant donut-shaped sign, approximately 10 meters (32 feet) in diameter, that stands atop the roof of its first U.S. location has long been a symbol of the city. Widely recognized as a Los Angeles landmark, the sign has appeared in popular movies, music videos, and on the social media accounts of celebrities.

Using the original recipe that has been passed down since its founding, Randy’s Donuts offers more than 40 handcrafted donuts daily, including a wide variety of Classic, Deluxe, Fancy, and Premium options. The lineup also features the round-shaped “Randy’s Rounds” and the massive “Texas” donut.
The Shibuya Daikanyama store also features a giant donut-shaped sign in front of the shop. Towering overhead, the eye-catching sign makes a bold visual statement.

However, since the store is located on a property not visible from the public road, it’s essential to check the map beforehand to avoid getting lost when visiting.

What truly catches the eye is the store’s showcase. Stretching from ceiling to floor, it’s packed with an impressive array of donuts. From classic favorites to vividly colorful creations that look like they came straight out of a drawing, the selection is overwhelming—in the best way. With so many varieties, there’s no way to try them all in just one visit.

To celebrate its debut in Japan, the Shibuya Daikanyama store is offering Japan-exclusive items, including the “Limited LA Blue Custard Cream Set (12 pieces)” and the giant donut “Strawberry Chocolate Texas Glazed.”
Measuring approximately 16 centimeters in diameter, the giant donut is about 1.5 times larger than the most popular “Glazed Raised,” which has a diameter of around 11 centimeters. In person, it looks more like a pancake than a donut. True to its American roots, the oversized treat is perfect for sharing with others. It will be available for a limited time only, from May 15 to June 15, with a limited quantity sold each day.
Randy’s Donuts, the unexpected new arrival in the Daikanyama area, is a must-visit for anyone in the neighborhood. Be sure to check it out if you’re nearby.
