Hokkaido Menkoi Kumachan Onsen is a solo hot pot restaurant known for its adorable “Koguma Onsen” – a bear-shaped broth solidified with dietary fiber and collagen, giving the appearance of a bear relaxing in a hot spring. Since opening in 2021 on Miyamasuzaka in Shibuya, Tokyo, the shop went viral with over 8 million views on social media, earning a reputation as a must-visit spot with reservations booked a month in advance. In October 2024, it relocated to Shibuya Center Street. The menu has since expanded beyond individual hot pots to include photogenic sweets and savory dishes.

One of its standout desserts, the “Kamakura Shaved Ice,” features an adorable bear inside an igloo. Released in June this year, it has attracted attention on social media. Inside the ice dome, an LED light illuminates the interior, softly highlighting the miniature bear made of white bean paste yokan that jiggles gently. Underneath the fluffy shaved ice is anmitsu, and the ice itself is generously soaked in milk syrup. With a selection of nine syrup options, customers can enjoy the treat without getting bored until the very last bite.

This time, the long-time favorite “Bear Shaved Ice” has been upgraded. Its fruity “dress” now looks even more vibrant with the addition of edible flowers. The use of extra syrup and milk enhances the richness of flavor.

The new flavors feature matcha syrup, mint syrup, and chocolate toppings. The bittersweet, authentic matcha shaved ice comes with a bear made of chocolate. Pairing it with a special matcha cream further deepens the taste. The choco mint version also features a chocolate bear.
