The main store of ‘MORIHICO.’, situated close to Maruyama Park in Sapporo, Hokkaido. This coffee shop, with its unpretentious yet nostalgic and witty elegance in both its facade and food and drink menu, is irresistibly inviting.
As of May 2023, MORIHICO. operates 11 stores in Hokkaido, including its main store. Its canned coffee, ‘MORIHICO.’s Coffee,’ which it supervises for sale in vending machines and kiosks, boasts high recognition.
The main store, which opened in 1996, is a two-story house with a red tin roof. It is completely covered with lush greenery, showing a significant presence even in a back alley. On hot days, the charm of the place includes large bees buzzing around, drawn by the greenery.
Both inside and outside of the store, there is a sense of chaos and yet atmosphere, where one can feel the ingenuity and dedication of Sosuke Ichikawa, the representative who handles the art direction for all the stores.
Sweets on offer include ‘Gâteau Fromage’ (tax included, 462 yen), ‘Gâteau Chocolat’ (tax included, 462 yen), ‘Shiboust’ (tax included, 528 yen), and several types of pound cake (each tax included, 253 yen), along with seasonal sweets. The drinks primarily feature the store-exclusive special blend coffee ‘Droplet of the Forest’ (medium-dark roast).
Furthermore, as lines can form around lunchtime, we recommend visiting early. It’s a coffee shop where you’ll want to enjoy the changing scenes of the four seasons.
